Volunteerism in the Austin Community |

More than 53,382 service hours were volunteered
by members during the fiscal year June
1, 2006 -- May 31, 2007. As of June 1, 2007, ALA had 375 members,
including Junior members and PALs. ALA returned to the Austin community a very high percentage of the funds received.
Through our seven philanthropic programs, last year ALA served:
- 175 assault survivors through
distribution of Assault Survivor Kits® to local hospitals with toiletries, clothing and a book on surviving rape.
- Over 530 senior citizens taken on scenic outings with BUS WITH US.
- 3,368 students at 105 AISD schools with a full school wardrobe of new clothing, shoes, book bag and grooming kit through
OPERATION SCHOOL BELL®.
- 2 Austin students with Occupational/Technical Scholarships
to Austin Community College, covering tuition, books and fees.
- 12,952 children at Children's Hospital of Austin with gifts from the
Toy Cart.
- 50 traumatized children at the Emergency Room at Children's Hospital of Austin with 'Because We Care' Bears.
- 30 graduating foster children with Preparation for Adult Living kits.
Past Major Donations to the Community:
- ALA donated $6,125.00 to the 2006 Children's Miracle Network Celebration.
- $13,000 donated in 2004 to Parents of Newborns project for 368 infant car seats.
- Playground at Austin Community College Children's Lab School.
- Play Structure (ambulance) and Practice 911 Phone Booth in Emergency Room at Children's Hospital of Austin.
- Uniforms were provided to the Greater East Austin Youth Classic.
- Supply of fish and maintenance to eight aquariums at Children's Hospital of Austin.
- 2,946 "Spirit Shirts" were given to children at five elementary schools. They were given to each child and faculty/staff member to promote school
spirit.
