CAPITAL CAMPAIGN
The Capital Campaign was begun in January 2004
to create funds for the purchase of a new facility at 4901 Burnet Road.
The sale of our previous building at 7951 Burnet Road provided 27% of the
revenue, with an additional 34% coming from member donations. The
Capital Campaign Committee continues to work to maximize member giving,
cultivate new funding sources, and seek grant opportunities.
At the close of the second year of the
campaign, committed funds surpassed the $2 M mark representing 65% of our
goal of $3.1 M. A generous pledge of $120,000 from former member and
first treasurer of ALA, Sara Rathgeber and husband Dick, gives ALA
additional fundraising incentive by matching 10% of all new monies
received for the campaign after November 15, 2005. The campaign also
encourages participation in ALA Memorials and Tributes. This ongoing
effort resulted in $9,900 additional funding during the fiscal year
2005-2006. As we enter the third year of the campaign, emphasis will
be on grant writing and individual donor cultivation. The move of
School Bell into the newly renovated space provided excitement and a
visual reminder of the ultimate goal in acquiring the building.
ENDOWMENT FUND
Assistance League of Austin is one of 10 nonprofits to have received a
challenge grant from Austin Community Foundation to establish an
Endowment Fund. Austin Community Foundation will match 1 to 4 in monies providing up to $5,000
per year for four years. If Assistance League of Austin is able to raise $20,000 per year
for the four years, we will receive $20,000 from Austin Community
Foundation. This will
provide a "nest egg" for Assistance League of Austin of $100,000.
Austin Community Foundation will manage the
investments, and we will draw interest only for its needs.
The first year goal was met with a $5,000 grant
from the Saunders Family Foundation, a generous $5,000 donation from friends
of Assistance League of Austin, and contributions by our members. As
of May 31, 2007, Assistance League of Austin's Endowment Fund totaled
$33,090.
