Operation Wish List

Granting Wishes

Operation Wish List or OWL Books provides instructional items, including books, math and science programs, musical instruments, special chairs for students with disabilities and a variety of enrichment materials to one Austin ISD school each year.  This year, Assistance League, with the help of AISD's administrative staff, selected Galindo Elementary School.  Galindo has 642 students, 93% of whom are disadvantaged. Built in 1986, it is located on South 2nd Street just north of Ben White.

The OWL committee provided school faculty members the opportunity to complete a Wish List. After review, the committee purchased as many items on that list as possible.  With other funds available at the end of the year, we purchased books for summer reading programs, books for a "book bus" that will serve neighborhoods without a summer reading program, plus a large number of books for 14 middle schools.
